Marti Tirinnanzi is an expert in financial risk management and hedging strategies using derivatives and swaps contracts. She is skilled at helping market-users understand and navigate financial regulations related to Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act. In financial reporting policy circles and in Washington, DC, she is credited for her work for better transparency for derivatives pricing, risk management, and financial reporting.
Tirinnanzi currently serves on the Board of Directors and on the Audit Committee for Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), which operates global exchanges, including the NYSE and clearinghouses. Tirinnanzi is well known in Washington DC policy circles for her expertise in derivatives and risk management. She has regularly advised Congressional staff, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and others on ways to address financial risk.
Following the 2008 financial crisis, she worked with the Congress, CFTC, and other regulatory agencies and financial industry groups to address the problems of the crisis — chiefly counterparty risk and risk management strategies using derivatives contracts. She was appointed chairman of the Clearinghouse Working Group of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) and under her leadership was involved in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac transfer of $3 trillion in interest rate swap contracts — the largest derivatives portfolios used for hedging interest rate risk, to central clearing and settlement. She also served as a legislative advocate for the FHFA in the development of the Dodd Frank Act’s Title VII on derivatives.
For more than 30 years, Tirinnanzi has advised REITs, banks, securities/futures brokerages and commodity-dependent manufacturing companies in the areas of price and rate risk management, hedging strategies using derivatives contracts, financial instrument accounting, and regulatory compliance. She has served in various senior executive financial positions in roles at MFX Currency Risk Solutions, RBC Capital Markets, Chatham Financial and WGL Holdings ($2.6 billion regional public utility company.) Earlier in her career she was a policy director for America's Community Bankers (now the American Bankers Association) and was a review examiner to banking supervision and regulation with the Federal Reserve.
Tirinnanzi has a passion for delivering education. In addition to her work for the IFM, she was an adjunct professor of accounting and finance at Catholic University’s Busch School of Business from 2020 to 2022. She previously was an adjunct professor of banking and finance at Johns Hopkins University's Carey Business School. Also she authored, How Bitcoin and Blockchain Are Changing the World - and Your Economic Life.
